My Story

I was trained in Communication at Universidad Autónoma de Baja California (UABC) and early in my career collaborated with graphic design teams, which led me to see the need for more interdisciplinary design professionals. I later completed a Master’s in Communication and Graphic Design at Universidad Iberoamericana Noroeste (IBERO), where I consolidated my interest in design research, and went on to earn a PhD in Design and Information Visualization from Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana, Azcapotzalco (UAM-A).

I am the author of La Profesión del Diseño Gráfico en Tijuana (UABC, 2015) and El diseño de textos digitales interactivos (McGraw-Hill, 2022). I am a member of Mexico’s National System of Researchers (Sistema Nacional de Investigadores SNI). My research focuses on the intersection of graphic design, editorial practices, technology, visual culture, and society, with particular attention to digital and urban border contexts.

I currently serve as a professor and researcher in the Faculty of Engineering and Technology Sciences at Universidad Autónoma de Baja California, where I have coordinated the Graphic Design program and led a major curriculum revision. I currently coordinated the Master’s and PhD programs in Architecture, Urbanism, and Design accredited in Mexico’s National Register of Quality Graduate Programs. I am the founding member of the the research and teaching group Diseño y Comunicación.

I serve on the advisory committee for Tijuana Design Week and on the leadership team of Ciudad Diseño, a long-term initiative focused on design, urban space, and community engagement in the Tijuana region.
